I’m Jessica Bateup, 13 years old, and my song is called “lines”. I wrote this song for my friend, and for the people who feel as though self-harm is the answer to their hurting, depression, and problems.
The songs’ purpose is just to get the message out that there is always someone who loves you, and that the situation may be smaller that you think. I wanted to try and at least help prevent the amount of suicides in the world. Most of all, to let my friend know, that I am that ONE person that is willing to do anything, anything, to see her truly happy again.
BIO FOR JESSICA
13 year old Canberra student Jessica Bateup, showed an early talent in performing by winning her first ever school talent quest in Kindergarten when she choreographed and sung that annoying Justin Beiber song “Baby” without any backing music. Since then, she has participated and won many more school talent quests, auditioned for Australia’s Got Talent and the Voice Kids in 2013, and has performed at the Tuggeranong Rising Star for the last two years. This year (2017) with the help of The Faumui family and ELEVATE, Jessica wrote and recorded her first original song, Lines; A moving, melodic song very close to her heart. She hopes to help kids who hear her song realize that self harm and suicide is not an answer.
